The name of the center, gOmoigawah, relates to the river which flows through the City. Temple

1.Tennouin-Temple
This temple was built in 1155 by Masamitsu Oyamafs family, and was where Masamitsu Oyama was buried. The site distinctly divides past and present time. Off the footpath stands the entrance and main gate of this Buddhist (Zen) temple. A stone pillar stands at the entrance and is inscribed with words that state '" Leek and liquor are not allowed to pass through this gate". These words relate to Buddhist beliefs that leek (vegetable) and alcohol influence can cause inappropriate thinking and behaviour. Many traditional stone statues called eJizof are located at this site. eRokujizof is the name of six Jizo that stand together wearing red bibs. Jizo primarily represents protection for dead children. This site also features a eMother and Childf Jizo. There are also numerous stone tablets inscripted with history of Oyama..

Shrine

1.Sugajinjya (Suga shrine)
This Shinto shrine was constructed in 940 in the northern area of Oyama, but in 1159 it was transferred from its original site to its current site. Early in the Showa era several additions were made ncluding an Otorii (Main Gate), a main and miniature shrine, a purifying water pavilion and an office. In March 1982 the eSuga Shrine Hallf was opened, and itfs now a popular venue for many events such as weddings. This site is shrouded in a lush forest of trees and flowers.
The Suga Shrine plays a significant role during summer, as it hosts the annual eSummer and Bon-Dancing Festivalsf. During the festivals, local citizens parade energetically through the street carrying ornate portable shrines.
