Especially regarding the ending of the wars of the SenkokuPeriod, the“Oyama Counsel”was the decisive meeting of generals which led to the creation of the Tokugawa Bakufu (shogunate)- therefore, this is the“Town ofGood Fortune.”Only 60km from Tokyo, located in the south of Tochigi Prefecture with a population of 165,000, Oyama is the second largest city in the prefecture,and is an important transportation point, with a Shinkansen station, and a National Highway.Oyama City boasts many world-class treasures, including the Ramsar Convention designated Watarase Yusuichi, and the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritageinscribed Honba Yuki Tsumugi. The City is also the hometown of Mr. Kosuke Hagino who won the bronze medal in swimming in the 2012 London Olympics, and thejudoka Mr. Masashi Ebinuma.This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the municipality. As the celebration of new founding year of“Making Oyama,”which overflows with dreams and hopes,Oyama City promotes“Inviting people and businesses,”creates the“Oyama Brand,”shows ourselves nationally as the“Town of Good Fortune Oyama,”and furthercontinues our Economic Reform to maximize the use of our wealth of People, Nature, Culture, and Logistical Convenience.We have filled this commemorative publication of the 60 year anniversary of our municipality with the many charms of new Oyama.
